We have set up this fund in memory of Len who died of Pulmonary Fibrosis on October 27th 2009 aged 55.
Once the fund has reached £2000 a tree will be dedicated in a woodland trust site by the British Lung Foundation in memory of Len.
For you Dad
I want to do you justice
I want to do you proud
To sum you up To make it clear
To say who you were out loud
Cake and biscuits, cheese and wine
We never went without
Lotto tickets every week
We’ll win the lot no doubt!
If we didn’t
never mind you’d say
go and see what’s in my green bag
Im sure you’ll find a ton in there,
Loose change your signature tag
Shrapnel, Mush, The upshot is
Some words my Dad would say
Pin Mill brow, Broomstairs Mill all factories to pay his way
Adamsons’, Ashton Guide bridge, Imex and Davenfield road
That neighbour ‘break ya neck’, just waiting for him to explode
Chisels, planes, rosewood, teak, and de nibbing through the night
Enough stuff to sink a battle ship
Your expressions would delight
You always enjoyed the company
of your many woodwork friends
Discussing the weeks nonsense
Chewing the fat with Wayne
We could always turn to Dad
for any problem or advice
He always had an answer
A solution Or another way.
like hiring Fudge and Splinter to chase the mice away.
Nov 5th Bonfire night, walks with mum on the canal
Bacon butty’s and Rich fruit cake,
Curry and a chat with your pal
Running in a marathon, Driving through country lanes
Planes, barges, engines
But definitely not sitting on Virgin trains
Your distaste for beetroot, bad manners and Frogs,
‘Christ! Not while I’m having my tea!
Your language would go to the dogs
The sodding veneer hasn’t stuck again
And not following the golden rule
Measure twice
Cut once
you silly bloody fool!
Is the pope a Catholic?
Get your ducks in a row,
All these things that made you
And in turn helped us to grow
You’re my general knowledge,
my map
and A to Z
My GCSE in history
I rely on what you said
Katie Kate, a big, bear hug, A ruffle on the head,
Its how I knew what you felt
No need to write in pencil lead.
Your generosity never waned even when times were tough
I always knew I could count on you
For your honesty, loyalty and love
We’ll always know how proud you were
of me and my brother James
your loyalty and love of mum
will live on amongst the bonfire flames
but most of all I hope you know
how proud we are to have had
Len Newton as our dad.
